Introduction to Yin Yoga Course

Experience the world of Yin Yoga - a complimentary practice to Hatha Yoga; and our modern lifestyles

Yin Yoga is an incredibly complementary tool in any yoga student's arsenal; particularly when the student practices strong Hatha or Vinyasa (Flow) style classes.

This course is designed to introduce students to this very different, special practice in the usual fluff-free, straight forward Pride Yoga way of teaching!

Each week will focus on a different area of the body and by the end of the course, you will feel the benefits of a regular Yin practice - including less stress and reduced tightness in your body.

Important Note: The Introduction to Yin Course is just that; a fluff-free Yin only class.

There are similarities with Friday Night Unwind, minus the eye pillows, gentle movement, yoga Nidra, massages, essential oils & scentwork - all those elements will be reserved for Friday Night Unwind to preserve the essence of that unique experience. You've still got the opportunity to go deeper into Yin and the world around it, if you wish. If that's what you want - click here.

So, the course will be more like an Unwind Super-Lite - a great value introductory course, without the bits that some students have been nervous about and just getting to grips with the style of practice and its many benefits.

What is a Yin class like?

A Yin class is based on the floor, moving into a sequence of poses and counterposes targeted at different parts of the body; muscular, skeletal or even organs.

Each pose is held passively for between 3-5 minutes to access safe and positive stress into the deeper connective tissues. A series of props like blankets, bolsters, straps and blocks to help us find an edge of sensation.

Why do we do that?

Yin Yoga helps to maintains and restore the natural mobility in our joints, predominently the lower section of the body - knees, hips and spine.

Yin also stimulates the Meridian system in the body; in a similar way to Acupuncture. This system enhances the energetic flow in the body (Qi or Chi) and helps support emotional balance.

Yin's emphasis is on finding stillness and focusing inwards preparing the body and mind for deeper meditation.

Benefits of Yin Yoga

  • Compression into deeper tissues - joint capsules, ligaments & tendons and release from this compression flushes fresh synovial fluid through the joints. Synovial fluid keeps our joints from drying out, and keeping friction to a minimum. Feels like a lovely deep massage after each release.

  • Relaxing & destressing - firing up our parasympathetic nervous system; reduces cortisol levels.

  • Antidote to modern stressors.
